Showing Up Together at Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Westchester
It was a bright, beautiful October morning: blue sky, gold leaves overhead, and a sea of pink stretching across the park. Our team joined thousands of neighbors at the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk in Westchester, and we were honored to host this year’s Hope Tent.
All morning, people stopped by to say hello, pick up a keepsake, and share who they were walking for. Mothers, sisters, grandmothers, friends, coworkers. Survivors walked alongside the people who carried them through treatment. Families walked in memory of someone they love. Several members of our own team walked for people close to their hearts, too.

Why this matters to us
Since 1990, The Portfolio Strategy Group has worked alongside families through every season of life, including the hardest ones. A diagnosis touches the whole family: the person in treatment, the spouse holding everything together, the children, and the friends who want to help but aren’t sure how. Being the family behind your family means showing up in those moments, with patience, warmth, and attention to the details that matter most.
That’s why we created Show Up Well, a short guide with five simple ways to support someone facing breast cancer:
- Offer something specific.
- Listen without fixing.
- Follow their lead.
- Stay past the finish line.
- Remember the caregiver, too.

Thank you to the American Cancer Society, the organizers and volunteers, and every walker who came out to make this day what it was. The walk lasted a morning. The support continues all year, and we’re proud to be part of a community that keeps showing up for one another.
